Parent's Newsletter January 2014

Date added: Friday 10th January 2014
Latest updated: Thursday 23rd February 2023

Dear Parents

We hope that you all had a relaxing break over Christmas and are looking forward to the adventures and treats of 2014!

Thank you to all families who came to watch our Nativity and joined in with the Christmas Carols. Your support is much appreciated!

At the end of the Autumn term we said farewell to Jane Parsons who has moved to Cornwall to take on new challenges as Advisory Teacher for the Visually Impaired. Carol Crabtree, after 28 long years, has also left us and is now enjoying a well-earned break and time with her family.

We raised £79.53 for Young Epilepsy on our ‘wear your jolly jumper' day in December. Thank you for all your contributions!

We continue collecting Nestle cereal box tops until March, please send them in if you have any at home.

Spring term

Dates

First day of Spring term: 7th January 2014

Half term: 17-21 February

Last day of Spring term: 4th April

New time table

This Spring term we enrol a new time table. The class teachers will send home your child's personalised time table. Your feedback, as always, is very welcome. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher regarding curriculum matters and therapists regarding therapy provision.

There will be several groups (both curriculum and therapy based) throughout the week and children will have more opportunities to take part in targeted groups.

Due to the restructuring of the timings of the lessons the Hydrotherapy sessions will be extended.

Topic

Our Spring term topic is animals. As this is a huge topic we divided it into two sub-topics each half term, four throughout the Spring term. In the first three weeks we will be learning about pets followed by under water and Arctic and Antarctic animals. During the second half term the two sub-topics will be minibeasts and rainforest animals.

If your child has any fiction/non-fiction books, photos, posters, stories on pets or under water animals we would be grateful if you could send them in for ‘show and tell times'. We shall return all material.

Celebrations

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year on 31st January. If you have any Chinese artefacts which you can spare during that week, we would be very happy to show them to the children.

New pupil

We will be welcoming a new pupil, William Prosser in Class 1 from January. He might be familiar for many families who attended Honeylands in the past.

Music Therapy

Sue Pratt (Music Therapist) will be absent from school for a couple of weeks from 23rd January, during that time there will be no Music Therapy. She will continue her excellent sessions on her return.

Inclusion

From January I will no longer visit the children's mainstream schools but the class teachers will be given time to do this and liaise with mainstream teachers. Therapists will carry on their mainstream visits as usual.

Coffee morning

I hope you received my letter and many of you will be able to attend the coffee morning at Vranch on Saturday, 18th January, 10-12pm. Please let us know whether you will be able to come so we can organise volunteers to entertain your children whilst you enjoy a chat and tea/coffee with fellow parents.

Please do not hesitate to contact me ([email protected]) or any member of Vranch House if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's schooling.

Wishing you all a very happy new year, less rain and a beautiful Spring!
